Spain has an important history linked to university education. By  the 13th century it had several universities, Salamanca being the fourth oldest in Europe. The commitment to knowledge and college education has always been present in Spain, to the point that less than 30 years after the discovery of America, in 1518 the Spanish founded the first University in the ‘New World’, the Royal and Pontifical University of Santo Tomás de Aquino in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), which was followed by another 26 universities spread throughout the American continent.

Spain currently has a hundred public and private universities that stand out for the quality of their education and their recognized technological and scientific achievements.
